Role Description
The FP&A Business Partner, Sales Finance is a full-time onsite role based at Amylu Headquarters in Chicago, IL. This individual will act as the primary liaison between Finance and our commercial organization (Sales, Marketing and Innovation). Initially, the role will play a key part in standing up Sales Finance at Amylu, formalizing the functional planning & reporting, and the customer and item profitability tools. Ongoing, the individual will lead functional planning and reporting, drive optimization of item and customer profitability, own innovation finance (including new item margin evaluation), and shape the company's margin roadmap. Success in this role is measured by the actions the business takes off the analysis, not the reporting itself. This is a high-visibility role with significant ownership, direct exposure to senior leadership and a meaningful impact on a fast-growing company.
Primary Responsibilities
Planning
- Lead the sales planning and forecasting cycles (monthly, quarterly and annually), building bottoms-up volume, price, trade and mix forecasts by customer, channel and item in partnership with Sales, Marketing, and Innovation
- Own the gross-to-net and trade spend forecast; maintain risks & opportunities (R&O) trackers and challenge commercial leaders on volume, pricing, promotion and distribution assumptions
- Build and maintain driver-based customer and item P&L models that clearly connect commercial decisions to net sales, gross margin and value creation objectives
Reporting & Analysis
- Design and own customer and item (SKU) profitability reporting, including gross-to-net waterfalls, trade rates and gross/contribution margin by customer, channel and item
- Produce accurate and timely sales performance packages that highlight performance vs. plan, forecast and prior year, with actionable insights
- Perform price/volume/mix (PVM) and variance analysis, investigate root causes with Sales and Marketing leadership, and explain the drivers clearly
- Integrate syndicated data (Circana/IRI, SPINS, Nielsen) with shipment data to analyze consumption vs. shipments, velocity, distribution, share and category trends
- Build Excel blueprints, then build and automate recurring reporting (through NetSuite, Power BI, and Vena) to enable real-time visibility
Margin & Profitability Optimization
- Identify and quantify margin improvement opportunities across the customer and item portfolio, including pricing, trade effectiveness, mix, pack-price architecture and SKU rationalization
- Develop and own a multi-year margin roadmap that sizes pricing, cost, mix and productivity levers, and track delivery against it
- Evaluate pricing actions, customer deals and trade promotions (pre- and post-event ROI) and make recommendations to leadership
- Turn insight into action: partner with Sales, Marketing and Operations so that findings lead to decisions (e.g., a pricing change, a trade reallocation, an operational fix on a low-yield item) with measurable bottom-line impact
Innovative Finance
- Own innovation financials from ideation through launch, partnering with R&D, Marketing, Sales, Operations and Procurement on bottoms-up volume forecasts, pricing scenarios and trade strategy
- Lead margin evaluation for new items, including target costing, formulation/yield impacts, make vs. buy and co-pack options, and margin hurdle rates
- Build and maintain launch P&Ls and business cases, and help define stage-gate financial criteria for the innovation pipeline
- Track post-launch performance vs. business case, flagging underperforming or low-margin items for corrective action or rationalization
Business Partnership
- Serve as the primary FP&A Business Partner to Sales, Marketing, and Innovation providing financial insight to drive profitable growth
- Support customer planning and negotiations with financial analysis of customer pricing, trade investment, new distribution and deal economics
- Partner with commercial teams on P&L drivers, including gross-to-net, trade spend, COGS, standard costing and unit economics
- Partner with Operations and Cost Accounting to ensure standard costs used in item and customer profitability are accurate and current
- Support ad-hoc analysis and business cases for strategic initiatives, including new customers and channels, pricing strategy and scenario planning
Skills and Qualifications
- 5-8 years of progressive Corporate Finance / FP&A experience, including 3+ years in Sales, Commercial, Category or Brand Finance
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; MBA or CPA a plus
- Hands-on experience with customer P&Ls, trade spend, gross-to-net and price/volume/mix analysis
- Experience owning innovation financials (business cases, launch P&Ls, new item margin evaluation)
- Working knowledge of syndicated data (Circana/IRI, Nielsen and/or SPINS)
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; experience with BI tools (Power BI), ERPs (NetSuite a plus) and EPM/planning systems (Vena a plus)
- Proven track record of turning analysis into decisions that improve margin and profitability
- Exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail and proactive problem-solving
- Strong storytelling and communication skills, with the ability to influence and challenge senior commercial leaders
- Builder mindset: comfortable standing up processes and tools in a fast-growing, evolving environment, with a high degree of ownership
- Experience coaching or mentoring junior analysts is a plus
- CPG food or beverage experience strongly preferred
Compensation and Benefits Summary
- Pay Range: $125,000–$155,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
