Your Mission: Banza is looking for a food regulatory and quality professional to join our team! This role plays a critical role in maintaining Banza’s high standards for food quality and safety. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Operations, and external partners to help bring our products to life while making sure every Banza item is safe, compliant, and consistently meets regulatory requirements and our own high bar for quality. What You’ll Do:
Regulatory & Compliance
- Collaborate with R&D and Operations to ensure new product raw materials and claims meet internal and regulatory quality standards.
- Contribute to regulatory and food safety risk assessments of new ingredients, suppliers, and finished goods.
- Develop and manage Finished Product Technical Specifications in collaboration with R&D, Operations, and co-manufacturers.
- Maintain and update nutrition facts panels and product specifications.
- Review packaging artwork to ensure compliance with FDA and other applicable regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with external consultants, legal counsel, and internal teams to validate label claims and resolve complex regulatory questions.
- Monitor changes in food regulations and industry trends to assess risks and maintain product and process compliance proactively.
- Optimize ingredient labeling and declarations per applicable regulations.
- Drive internal change management processes related to packaging, formulations, ingredients, and supplier changes.
Quality Assurance
- Respond to internal and customer-facing requests for quality documentation, including support for platforms such as FoodLogiq, Repositrak, and similar.
- Analyze raw material and finished product test results; support investigation of quality issues and customer complaints.
- Perform trend analysis on customer feedback and quality data to identify improvement opportunities.
- Support product testing programs to validate compliance with product specifications and third-party certifications.
- Review and validate required documentation and identify any gaps or additional testing needs to support the supplier approval and onboarding process.
- Assess documentation and qualification records for third-party logistics providers (3PLs), co-packers, and co-manufacturers.
- Execute onsite audits of co-manufacturers, co-packers, and 3PLs.
- Participate in root cause analyses and corrective actions with external partners as needed.
- Oversee processes for third-party certifications (e.g., Non-GMO Project, GFCO, Kosher, CleanScan).
- Support optimization and data integrity within regulatory and quality management systems (e.g., TraceGains).
- Assist in evaluating and supporting regulatory compliance for cross-border activities (e.g., import/export requirements for Canada).
Who You Are
- 5+ years of experience in food quality and regulatory roles, preferably in a CPG environment. Startup / high growth experience is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of FDA food labeling regulations; familiarity with CFIA and other international standards a plus.
- Experience with contract manufacturing, 3PLs, and ingredient supply chains.
- Proficient with quality systems and regulatory platforms (e.g., TraceGains, FoodLogiq, Repositrak).
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex situations and implement effective, sustainable solutions.
- Proven ability to build and improve systems and processes in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
- Able to drive a car and travel occasionally (~10%) for site visits and audits.

Compensation
Our salary ranges are based on verified market data and our philosophy of paying competitively for our size and industry. Individual pay rate decisions are based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. We expect the majority of the candidates who are offered roles at our company to fall healthily throughout the range based on these factors. The salary band for this role is $90,000-$120,000. The range is for the expectations as laid out in the job description, however, we are often open to a wide variety of profiles, and recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted. If that ends up being the case, the updated salary range will be communicated to you as a candidate.
