What You’ll Do
The Tax Manager is a detailed oriented professional who embraces a culture of compliance and best practices. The Tax Manager, will manage external relationships to enhance the overall tax function, including minimizing tax risks. This person will also play a critical role in making continuous improvements to policies and procedures, thereby helping Sol de Janeiro’s accounting organization to achieve a “best in class” operation.
The Tax Manager will partner closely with the VP of Accounting and collaborate directly with various tax partners to contribute to the preparation of the income tax provision as well as the required income tax, sales and use tax and various other indirect tax filings (e.g. VAT).
What You’ll Be Working On
Proactively manage relationships with Avalara and various tax partners.
· Maintain tax (sales) filing schedules for all states and countries to which the Company sells its products.
· Coordinate the filing of all income tax returns, extensions, and estimated payments with the third-party provider, including reviewing filings for accuracy and compliance with the required laws.
· Review timely income tax provisions and tax-related accounting for interim and annual financial statements prepared by third party.
· Prepare and account for the annual provision to tax return computation.
· Review and file of quarterly estimated tax payments and maintain organized records of cash tax payments and refunds due from taxing authorities.
· Evaluate IFRIC23 for uncertain tax positions.
· Monitor guidance and implement changes resulting from recent tax legislation.
· Monitor changes in business activities in states to identify potential state income tax nexus or any other tax exposure.
· Create a tax reporting package to be distributed to senior management.
· Organize and ensure documentation reflects current practices and procedures for tax processes.
· Assist with the preparation and review of all tax related journal entries.
· Perform Sales and Use Tax reconciliations; manage large sets of data and render in summary format in a timely manner.
· Work with other teams related to monthly recording of tax expense, cash flow inquiries and modeling and other various tax related requests.
· Research and recommend tax planning strategies to management.
· Function as point person for all federal, state and local audits, including handling all notices and correspondence with federal and state taxing authorities.
· Respond in a timely manner to tax notices from IRS, State and Local tax authorities and foreign tax authorities.
· Oversee the annual 1099 preparation and reporting process.
Must Haves
· CPA and/or master’s in taxation preferred
· Minimum of 5-year relevant experience
· Excellent organizational skills
· Strong communication skills both oral and written
· Strong work ethic and time management skills
· Proficient in MS Excel and general ledger ERP System (SAP a plus)
· Team player motivated to work in a fast-paced environment
· Ability to manage data quickly and render in summary format
· Ability to manage projects to help streamline/create efficient processes
