JOB TITLE: Director of Product Marketing  

REPORTS TO: Vice President of Marketing 

DEPARTMENT: Marketing 

 

 

OVERVIEW 

The Director of Product Marketing plays a pivotal role in the overall performance and success of Summer Fridays’ product assortment. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of the prestige beauty industry, a proven track record in developing product assortment strategies and executing successful product marketing strategies and possesses the ability to inspire and lead a cross-functional team.   

In this role, the Director of Product Marketing will oversee all phases of the product marketing lifecycle, including innovation, reinvigoration of existing products and discontinuation strategies. This role will orchestrate all facets of Product Marketing; including but not limited to developing a strategic assortment framework and overseeing the development of product kick-off forms, competitive analysis documentation, packaging design direction, and pricing strategies, along with diligent oversight of subsequent marketing deliverables and collateral.  

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develop and execute comprehensive product marketing strategies that align with the brand's vision, values, and business objectives, working closely with key brand stakeholders and cross-functional partners.  
  • Lead the product marketing process from ideation to execution, ensuring seamless coordination across departments including Product Development, Creative, Sales, Ops and Marketing. 
  • Manage the three-year global New Product Development calendar, ensuring all facets are considered, including but not limited to sales and margin goals, assortment and category mix, seasonality, and innovation objectives.  
  • Support cross functional teams with product-focused launch and activation strategies, ideating specific recommendations that tie back to ingredients and product benefits in a manner consistent with our brand ethos. 
  • Build a comprehensive strategy to enhance and grow our core business, including a big picture category management vision inclusive of product franchise/line extension recommendations. 
  • Conduct market research to identify consumer trends, analyze the competitive landscape, cost targets and emerging opportunities, translating insights into actionable strategies that align with the brand’s product marketing ethos.  
  • Analyze the performance of the brand’s full assortment, managing gap analysis documentation, providing insights to continuously improve product performance, evolve messaging and provide rationale for SKU discontinuations/refreshes when applicable.  
  • Collaborate closely with Product Development, Creative and Marketing to develop compelling product positioning, messaging, and packaging direction that resonate with the target audience, differentiate from the competitive landscape, and fit within our margin/sales goals. 
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration to ensure consistency in product messaging across all touchpoints, from packaging to retailer to all digital touch points. 
  • Work closely with Sales and Planning teams to forecast new product launches. 
  • Perform annual SKU-level pricing analyses and recommendations for price increases/adjustments. 
  • Develop and manage the product marketing budget, optimizing resources to achieve maximum impact. 
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and evolving consumer preferences to guide future product development and marketing efforts. 
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to the Product Marketing team, fostering their professional growth and success. 
  • Undertake additional product marketing tasks and responsibilities as required and assigned. 

 

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration or a related field. An MBA is preferred. 
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry (prestige beauty highly preferred). 
  • In-depth knowledge of current industry, product trends and consumer behavior.  
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in problem-solving and pursuing innovative opportunities. 
  • Ability to blend strategic and creative thinking to propel the brand’s innovation pipeline.  
  • Proven track record of successfully launching and marketing beauty products, with a deep understanding of product lifecycles.  
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to derive insights from data and metrics.  
  • Creative thinker with a passion for staying ahead of beauty trends.  
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Strong financial acumen and demonstrated experience with budget management and cost analysis.t 
  • Successful track record of managing cross-functional teams to achieve shared objectives. 
  • Exceptional presentation, communication and project management skills. 
  • Strong leadership and people development capabilities. 
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Apple Programs (Word, Excel, Keynote, PowerPoint).
